Maybe that’s how users will use it, but for the purposes of testing the functionality of Yum commands it might not give accurate results.

I suspect investigation x maintainer side will show bitmap-fonts has not been critical anymore for years

OTOH if you don’t include even a few fontconfigified TTF font packages, you’re going to have problems with any modern gui app

Absolutely right to define the smaller set, and this seems like a reasonable subset to start with.

(Long-term, I’d disagree that automated testing of every package isn’t worth a crap; it’s only not worth a crap if the tests are not worth a crap. Take the bullet and force people to write real tests, and in the long run we’ll all be better off for it.)

The first line before the list mentions all of those pkgs and ALL of their dependencies. I think mkinitrd is required by the kernel and grub and plymouth is required by mkinitrd.

bitmap-fonts is a mandatory pkg in the “X Window System” group.

I’m sure there are benefits from having a hot rpm cache – but to replicate actual uses of yum rebooting between each test isn’t helpful. People don’t run: yum list updates; then reboot then run yum update. They run them together.

I’ll run this test when I get a chance and post the results, too.

I would also be interested to see if the results change if you reboot between each test?
