mozilla pain and fun

August 15, 2004

Been trying to figure out how to pre-configure accounts for users. For a lot of applications this is trivial. Just configure it on a dummy account, copy those files into the skel and make your users.

For mozilla it’s a bit more tricky.

I eventually discovered these little gems:

And these samples:

Now, once you have that you have to know that the rdf files for this sort of info need to live under:

MOZILLAHOME/defaults/isp/file.rdf

Not an entirely obvious location, imo. Nevertheless, once you get them in place setting up a user account for users should be an utterly trivial exercise.

I’ve started looking at how to do the same in evolution and I have a feeling I’m going to end up killing someone in the process.🙂

Isn’t that just fun?

If someone has any suggestions on good user-default configuration guides for evolution, in particular, I’m all ears.
