Out on the thursday night ride down the American Tobacco Trail again. I wasn’t nearly as sore this time when I came back which I can only hope means good things. Still very tired but tired just means sleep. 🙂
Productive week that I’ll explain in another post.

So I made up some todo lists and some personal prioritizations and was able to chew through some of them this week.
– yum release
– yum-utils release
– seahorse package updated in extras
– yum-utils package updated in extras
– checked out new openafs pkgs
– lots of misc things for work
– learned how to use python generators
– hacked on a little yum code which needed doing
– looked again at doing things to make mock happier
– deleted an enormous amount of email 🙂
– closed old bugs
All in all feeling pretty good about some of the items on my [s]hit list. I’ve also been reading bicycle maintenance guides if only to learn how to diagnose any funky things that could go wrong with my bike. However, it’s still quite new and the bike shop provides good service for it since I got it there and the bike shop is on the way home from work so my incentive to learn all that much is lessened by the convenience and expertise they already have. 🙂
I think the girl and I are planning on riding our bikes around for a while this weekend and I’d like to look at getting some shorts a bit better suited to sitting on the bike seat for an hour or more. She got a new computer for measuring speeds and distances and I’m kinda interested in playing with it to see if maybe I want to get one too.
Starting working on some new things/ideas in yum and other programs. I think I want to spend some time playing with some new module in python but I’m not sure what, yet. Just something new to get excited about. Email me if you have suggestions.

I was riding up to elmo’s the other day for lunch and while I was locking up my bike there was a guy going in who gave me a look which seemed to convey “Damn, Hippie”. It made me giggle a bit b/c I kinda wished he would have said something b/c it was the one time in my life that I had the perfect comeback for a remark like that. I wanted to say “But I’m just protecting our country from terrorists and doing like the president asked us all, to conserve oil. Our patriotic duty! You don’t like terrorists, do you?”
Alas, he didn’t say anything and he probably didn’t give a crap about me anyway – but there was a brief dirty look and I was so excited that I had actually come up with something snappy to say at the time that it could have happened that I felt I needed to share that with someone. It’s painful to not be able to zip off the zingers like other folks. 🙂

Work today was not all that different: some long term projects iterated along. I felt overwhelmed by some of the stuff I need to accomplish and was fidgety at my lack of focus on many of these. I think I need to sit down and identify the blocker tasks that slow down many other things. But that was work.
For lunch I biked up to wellspring and sat and didn’t talk about work at all, which is good and then back to work to try and keep from getting unnecessarily mad about things that seem to be increasingly beyond my control.
Then I got an email on the durham bike and pedestrian mailing list. It said they were having a no-drop group night ride on the American Tobacco Trail tonight at 7:45 and anyone was invited.
So, I showed up at the right time and eventually we headed out. It was a small group of 5 of us but it was very pleasant to ride along on a comfortable evening. Everyone was very nice to me even though I was obviously the least experienced person present (evidenced by my lack of anything stretchy or lycra-y). I think I kept up reasonably well and while I’m sure I was more tired than everyone else when we finished I really enjoyed riding in a group of folks. Additionally, I got to go all the way down the Tobacco Trail, something I hadn’t done yet, and the end part surprised me with how far it was along.
I ended biking 25 miles in total (commute + lunch + ride) today which is a damn-site further than I normally do. I’m a little sore right now but not excruciatingly so. I hope to do it again next week, weather permitting.
Other stuff: I know I haven’t been posting about fedora and yum and other things like that recently. I’ve been a little out-of-usefulness for a little while and I’m not quite sure what all is the matter but I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently and I think I know what I need to do. It’s just a matter of getting up the drive to do it.
ah, Motivation, you cruel wench.
